Unity College may be a small school in rural Maine, but it embraces a big, bold point of view that garners national and international attention. Unity provides dedicated, engaged students with a liberal arts education that emphasizes the environment and natural resources. It seeks to raise national visibility as America’s Environmental College and to own a respected position in the global climate change community, while developing language the general public will understand.

Solution

Create a bold brand foundation and a series of recruitment and advancement assets to help its brand stand up and stand out among the nation’s other environmentally focused colleges and universities. We discovered that students, staff, faculty, alumni, and donors rallied around the same point of view, “To Ensure a Livable Planet”. This provided a foundation to showcase the passion of the Unity College community to provide a platform for discussion around environmental issues and highlight the hands-on research, discoveries, causes, and efforts the institution was making to solve the world’s toughest environmental problems.

Results

  • Immediately after launching the new Unity brand foundation, new student inquiries, applications, deposits and donor engagement hit all-time record highs.
  • Though the trend for many colleges was sloping downward, Unity College increased its student enrollment for the sixth consecutive year, growing 43% for a record-breaking year. 
  • Unity’s discount rate for the freshman class is nearing 35%, which is down from 43% two years ago
